Joby is also awaiting certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and received his first approval in late May. He Section 135 Air Carrier Certificate is one of the three FAA certifications required to operate commercial airlines.
Simultaneous applications to the FAA and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) should accelerate certification and entry into both markets. Joby Aviation CEO JoeBen Bevirt said in a statement that the collaborative approach to certification will help improve safety and accelerate adoption of new technologies.

The five-person eVTOL, developed by Joby, has a maximum range of 241 kilometers and a top speed of 321 km/h. Last year, the company debuted on the Nasdaq and entered into a partnership with Toyota.
The Japanese automaker also plans to roll out an air taxi service in Japan together with All Nippon Airways (ANA). Joby Aviation expects to start operating the first commercial flights in America in 2024. It is not yet known when eVTOL will be able to fly in the UK. The certification process can sometimes take years.
