A group of protesters who entered the Silverstone circuit shortly after the start of the British Grand Prix were immediately arrested and removed from the motorsport complex. The activists have been handed over to local police, Formula 1 reported.

It was an action group against new oil and gas projects in the UK. Protesters climbed over the fence immediately after the race was marked red on the first lap for a bad crash at the start. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu was the biggest victim. The car overturned and went through a gravel pit into a pile of tires and fences.

While other motorists were still driving on the track, the demonstrators suddenly ran across the race track. The marshal and police managed to defeat the activists immediately.

Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) won the race in front of the sold out stands. There were about 142,000 spectators.
