A Dutch trans woman stars in PDC’s new campaign for inclusivity

PDC is once again participating in the annual Rainbow Laces campaign this year. The organization behind this campaign supports LGBTQ+ people in the UK and tries to contribute to a positive change in public opinion.

Now in its eleventh year, the Rainbow Laces campaign promotes inclusivity in sport and supports the work of institutional programs at all levels of society.

PDC has participated in this initiative for several years. At this weekend’s Players Championship Final, the PDC logo on stage will adopt the campaign’s rainbow logo.

Players will also have the opportunity to support the Rainbow Laces campaign by wearing a pin on their competition t-shirt. Rainbow laces are also available for the shoes.

Noa-Lynn van Leuven has been presented by the PDC as one of the faces of this campaign. Van Leven is a Dutch trans woman, who made her debut at the Women’s World Matchplay in Blackpool earlier this year. Van Leuven became the first trans woman to appear in a televised tournament at the PDC.

Matt Porter, general manager at PDC, is pleased with the development. “Darts is a sport that traditionally may not have the most diverse backgrounds and participants, so it was important for us to show our support for Rainbow Laces and to show that the PDC is an inclusive space where everyone who is interested in playing darts, anyone who likes it to play darts, watch darts, follow darts, you can come and enjoy it.”

“I think it’s important to show inclusivity no matter what your background is… We want people to know that PDC is a place where you can come and feel not harassed, that you have no prejudice and that you can do what you like . In Noa-Lynn’s case, it was darts, without any problems. Noa-Lynn’s participation in Winter Gardens makes a huge statement at a time when trans athletes in the sport are making headlines. “It was important to show that Noa-Lynn’s participation was something that was very welcome,” said Porter.

Van Leuven himself is also very happy with the PDC’s participation in this inclusiveness campaign. ”I am very happy with the way PDC has shown its commitment. It’s great that the PDC is showing inclusion in darts. “It helped me to play in the tournament, but I think it also helped a lot of other people to play in the tournament,” Van Leuven said.
