Almost all of England is bracing for bad weather on Wednesday and Thursday. The national weather agency’s Met Office has issued a code yellow for Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and most of England. The culprit is Storm Agnes, which is expected to hit southwest Ireland on Wednesday.
Hurricane Agnes was the first hurricane of the year. The system is expected to make landfall in southwest Ireland on Wednesday morning. After that, Agnes will continue her journey across the north of England before disappearing again on Thursday. On land, wind gusts were estimated at 80 to 100 kilometers per hour. On the coast, wind gusts may reach 130 kilometers per hour.
Also lots of rain
Apart from strong winds, heavy rain is also possible in a number of places. On a large scale, 30 to 50 millimeters can fall into a rain gauge, and local chances even reach 60 millimeters. The most rain is expected in Scotland. Because it has been raining frequently recently and it has not been dry enough, there is a possibility that roads, gutters and water channels on the roads could be flooded.
