The nineteen-year-old grandson of Eurovision Song Contest winner Lenny Kuhr was seriously injured in the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The teenager fought as a soldier in the Israeli army and was shot in the stomach. The singer will meet him on Saturday.
Kuhr’s grandson was rushed to hospital in Tel Aviv. He underwent surgery there.
The shooting took place at a kibbutz in the south of the country, where nineteen-year-old Ozz had been sent with his unit. The unit has come under fire from Hamas fighters. A number of Ozz’s unit mates did not survive.
Kuhr’s grandson’s situation is stable. The singer will travel to Israel on Saturday to support her two daughters and four grandchildren. “Lenny knew what the risks were, but his maternal and grandmotherly feelings were too strong,” says Rob Frank, his husband and manager.
The singer plans to stay in Israel for two weeks. Kuhr has four grandchildren, the oldest of whom is Ozz. His seventeen year old granddaughter would soon be eighteen and would have to join the army.
Kuhr firmly stated on Instagram that he does not want to discuss politics. I pray for light. Light for us all and light that can prevail in this darkness. No words please. Just a candle as a symbol of love, affection and hope.”
Lenny Kuhr is known for hits such as Troubadour And Visit. He won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969 with Spain, France and England.
