The Mexican government acquired the locomotives and carriages used in England

The Mexican government will launch the Tehuantepec Isthmus Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) project, using passenger trains acquired in the UK, which are four decades old.

According to official reports, the Secretary of the Navy acquired 3 locomotives and 11 carriages that were removed from circulation in the country, and will now become part of the Ferrocarriles del Istmo de Tehuantepec vehicle fleet.

These were three Class 43 diesel high-speed locomotives. The first, model 43022, was built in October 1976, and taken out of service on 21 January this year as part of the UK’s rail fleet modernization programme.

The second, also Class 43 and model 43158, was built in April 1981 and taken out of service in May 2023.

Meanwhile, the 43170 model will stop circulating in August 2023.

Because the speed it reaches is about 125 miles per hour, which is about 200 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, for passenger cars, they have been stored by the company for years until they have reached the end of their useful life.

To transport goods on the Interoceanic Corridor, the federal government also purchased used locomotives used by American railroad companies. They were built in 2001 and recently ceased operations.
