Former American President Donald Trump has submitted a request to the court to postpone the trial of secret documents in the Mar-a-Lago case until after the presidential election in 2024. And the delay may result in cancellation, according to American correspondent Jan Postma.
“If Trump succeeds in delaying and winning the election, he could try to pardon himself,” Postma explained. However, how this will happen in practice and what exactly might happen remains unclear. “Experts disagree because this is unprecedented, but it is something Trump will take advantage of.”
Witch hunt
This former president also always remembers political games. “The closer the election day gets, the more political it becomes and the more difficult it becomes to declare him guilty as a presidential candidate,” explained the American correspondent. And there is another strategy behind the fact that Trump asked for a delay, because this way he remains in the news.
“It’s all part of the game. As soon as he was mentioned, he used it in his campaign, for example by saying that a witch hunt was being carried out against him,” Postma said. Trump took advantage of the various cases against him and made them his own stories. According to American correspondents, he did this primarily to influence public opinion.

This is not the first time Trump has requested a postponement of the trial at Mar-a-Lago. For example, the upcoming trial was postponed four days because his lawyer and confidant, Walt Nauta, could not appear at the initial hearing. ‘This was surprising, as Nauta had previously been unable to attend the hearing due to stormy weather in Miami. Then it must also be moved and angry tongues declare that these delays are now forming a pattern,” Postma said.
Support
Meanwhile, despite the various scandals and current problems he has faced, many American voters continue to support Trump. Postma sees that he continues to escape, at least for now.
“We’re in the middle of the primaries and he’s clearly at the top and the favorite. But now the main focus is fanatical and extreme supporters and candidates. “I’m curious to see what the election itself looks like if moderate voters come into play, which isn’t until late next year, so it’s going to take a while,” Postma said.
