Washington, September 13 (EFE).- The United States offered one million dollars in humanitarian assistance to Morocco this Wednesday to face the disaster caused by the earthquake that rocked south of Marrakesh last Friday and has so far left more than 2,900 dead and 5,500 people. wounded.
“These funds will help organizations on the ground provide food assistance, health services, and shelter,” the head of the US Agency for Development (USAID), Samantha Power, reported in a statement.
The official assured that his country has provided technical assistance to the Moroccan Government to respond to this crisis and is willing to provide more support if Morocco requests it.
After the earthquake, Morocco received humanitarian assistance from Spain, England, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, although it did not rule out asking for support from other countries.
The USAID Administrator expressed his “deepest condolences” to the Moroccan people for the devastation caused by the earthquake, while reaffirming the United States’ “commitment” to support the “recovery efforts” undertaken by the Moroccan Executive.
He also praised the “tremendous courage” of affected residents and first aid workers in searching for missing people and called on Americans to make donations to accredited organizations on the ground.
