On August 19, Duran Duran played at the Guild Theater in California.
benefit concert
“We headed to Northern California to play many of the songs we wrote with our good friend Andy Taylor, to help him and others in their battle with prostate cancer,” frontman Simon Le Bon said in a statement. “It was the right decision.”
Drummer Roger Taylor thanked those who helped make the concert possible. “We want to thank our fans and the organizers of this event for giving us the opportunity to help our longtime friend and colleague Andy Taylor,” he said. “We have always seen ourselves as a ‘band of brothers.’ And that is true today.”
Fights prostate cancer
Proceeds from the show will be donated to the Cancer Awareness Trust. The organization raises funds to fight cancer and help develop special treatments that will allow patients like Taylor to extend their lives.
After the announcement of the upcoming concert, 62-year-old Taylor was a guest at Rockonteurpodcast. There he spoke about his diagnosis: stage four metastatic prostate cancer. Initially it was thought he would not live long. But after his diagnosis, he was offered nuclear therapy, a treatment only recently became available in the UK. “Can’t heal it,” said the guitarist. But the therapy was able to slow down the disease. “I can get fit again. Then I will be fine for 5 years.”
