Twitter users can only view a limited number of tweets per day. Elon Musk, the social media boss, announced this on Saturday. He said this was a “temporary restriction”.
Twitter is “incredibly” struggling with data being copied and stored (also called scraping) and systems being manipulated, Musk wrote. Measures taken should prevent this. Previously, the CEO complained to AI companies, such as ChatGPT maker OpenAI, because they would collect data from Twitter at scale to train their language models.
Musk also announced emergency measures on Friday. Tweets are made invisible to people who aren’t logged in for the same reason. Due to the pressure on Twitter due to data depletion, the platform is no longer functioning optimally for users. Pinned tweets remain visible.
Under the regulations announced on Saturday, accounts with a blue tick can see only 6,000 tweets per day. There are six hundred for unchecked users and three hundred for unchecked new accounts. Musk later said that number would soon increase to eight thousand eight hundred and four hundred.
It is not known how long this policy will be in effect.
