Van Veen seized power on the PDC Development Tour Order of Merit after his fourth title of the season

Gian van Veen is the new leader on the PDC Development Tour Order of Merit. The Dutchman took over from 16-year-old Luke Littler after fifteen of 24 tournaments.

Van Veen returned to success on the Development Tour last weekend by picking up his fourth title of the season. The 21-year-old darts player from Poederoijen has earned £12,300 on the Development Tour circuit this season.

Littler currently ranks second at 10,175 pounds. Behind the magic talent of England, there is again the Dutch. Wessel Nijman also had a very strong tournament weekend with a tournament win and second place. At £8925, Nijman has a solid third place and can dream of participating in the World Cup and winning the PDC Tour Card later this year. Bradley Brooks and Jarred Cole also won last weekend’s tournament and moved up to fourth and fifth respectively.

What is the PDC Development Tour?

The PDC Development Tour counts as such PDC training institute. Talented players have the opportunity to further develop their talents on this circuit.

Players can enter as soon as they reach the age of sixteen. They can then participate up to and including the season in which they are 24 years old.

Currently, the Development Tour circuit consists of 24 tournaments. It will be completed over five weekends. One of the five weekends will be played in Hildesheim, Germany, the other four weekends in the UK.

What are the follow-up options through the PDC Development Tour?

The PDC Youth World Championship is held annually. It will take place on August 20 this season. The best players from the Development Tour are allowed to participate. They play the tournament until two players are left. The final is traditionally on the final night of the Players Championship Finals on November 26.

The prize for the junior world champion is a check of £10,000, participation in the World Darts Championship and qualification for the Grand Slam of Darts the following season. The latter also applies to the runners-up of the PDC World Youth Championship.

But there are more rewards to be earned through the Development Tour. Numbers one and two in the final ranking are allowed to participate in the World Darts Championship and receive a PDC Tour Card for the next two years. Number 1s on the Development Tour Order of Merit can also participate in the Grand Slam of Darts in the current season.

If one or more players from the top 2 of the PDC Development Tour Order of Merit have qualified for a specific TV tournament, they will move on to the next player in the rankings. The same goes for Tour Card distribution.
