Magar left Nepal at the age of nineteen. He served in the British Gurkha Regiment in Afghanistan. The corps is made up of men from the ethnic group with the same name in India and Nepal.
In Afghanistan, Magar lost both of his lower legs in an explosion. He was sent to England, where he continued to live. He became depressed and struggled with alcoholism.
According to Magar, climbing the mountain offered him a way out. In 2017, he was already the first person without a lower leg to scale a mountain of more than 6 kilometers.
On April 17, he began his ascent to Mount Everest. It was exactly thirteen years after an accident where he lost both of his lower legs. Due to bad weather, he had to wait almost three weeks. Last Friday he hit the peak, reports, among other things Guard. Sherpas helped him along the way.
People with disabilities are actually exempt from expeditions on Mount Everest. This is to reduce the number of mountaineering accidents. But Magar successfully campaigned to be allowed to climb the mountain.
