Monte Porreiro will have a new green area. The Ministry of Sustainable Development and the Natural Environment, led by socialist Ivan Puentes, will allocate un a budget of 300,000 euros to provide the area north of Monte Porreiro with a new park in the space demarcated between Luxemburgo and Ireland roads. The act, which will respond to historical requests from the environment, envisages accessible communication between the two roads leading to urbanization health centres, creation of a road network, installation of areas with bio-healthy sports elements and creation of multifunctional spaces with covered areas and benches for various activities.
In addition, a road access to UK roads and health centre and a new viewpoint with benches will be created towards the Lérez river area, as the existing hedgerows are planned to be moved.
As Iván Puentes explains, “the free zones that form the park around Luxemburgo and Ireland streets are a consequence of the urbanization development of Monte Porreiro, where the city’s largest stock of public housing is”, and the project “formulates a new generation of parks with environmental quality standards, landscapes , and functional comfort”.
“Responding to the environmental demand for communication with the roads of Ireland and Great Britain, an accessible route will make it possible to comfortably bridge the existing unevenness through the slopes. At the same time, also at the request of the citizens, we will create a quality park where they can extending their life outdoors, providing this green area with a living area with several sheltered spaces to develop various activities (music, for children…) and new recon, with the removal of the railing which currently covers the view to the other side of Lérez. In the same way, another aspect that the residents of Monte Porreiro asked us for was incorporation sports area with bio-healthy elements“, said Bridges.
