Andrew Bonar Law was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1922 to 1923. He came to power after the victory of the conservatives in the November 1922 electionstake advantage of the Liberal debacle following Lloyd George’s resignation. Debate reported his resignation: «Law Bonar has resigned due to his health condition. The doctors, having recognized him upon his return from the continent, had decided that it was pointless to wait any longer, as the prime minister was unlikely to recover any time soon.
As for the succession, the most likely thing –according to El Debate– is to fall into the hands cursonalthough another possible lucrative candidate is the then Minister of Finance, Stanley Baldwin. While the former holds the post of interim President of the Government, the latter has fewer political enemies, although he has “fewer prestige and authority” than Curzon, “whose energetic policies towards Russia and Turkey have sparked harsh criticism”, the paper said.
Short Reign of Bonar Law lasted 211 days where there are hardly any salient points, despite taking some measures such as lowering the direct tax on income. He had to leave the government for cesophageal cancer in May 1923, died in October of the same year.
