Crash with metro at Westerleeplein


Westerlee 16.04.2023 – On Sunday, April 16, an unusual traffic accident occurred in Westerleeplein, involving two vehicles and even a subway train.


The special (heavy) transport is on its way to Hoek van Holland with two metro trains in a trailer.

The new metro cars with a combined weight of 28,000 kilograms are intended for the Glasgow metro in the United Kingdom. Creature relatively low wagon because the route is long, said the employee of the company supervising the transport. In the near future, 20 of these shipments should be sent to the UK.

Traffic drove off the N213 and turned right onto the N223, but it went wrong there. For reasons unknown, the driver had to apply the brakes, causing the driver of the black Pickup truck to flip over to the rear of the trailer, but also the driver of the van that was traveling with the shuttle from behind.

Damage to both vehicles was significant, but no occupants were injured. The police took the driver of the Dodge to the police station to quietly fill out damage forms.

A provincial employee, BOA from the municipality of Rotterdam, two traffic inspectors and recovery services came to the scene to deal with the accident. Westerleeplein is temporarily closed to traffic using the N223 towards Hoek van Holland. The truck with trailer and metro train suffered almost no damage, the driver was able to continue his journey to England after all paperwork was done.
