De Volkskrant is published this weekend an article where it is described how the host shows transgressive and intimidating behavior in the editorial office of NOS Sport.
Yesterday it became clear that Egbers could not be seen as today’s presenter, to give editors and program a break due to the commotion that arose. It’s unclear how long his absence will last. NOS did not respond to inquiries regarding this matter, and did not confirm to RTL Nieuws that Egbers was temporarily stopping as presenter.
Janke Dekker’s wife left Mores
This afternoon, Tom Egbers’ wife, Janke Dekker, announced in a press statement that she was stepping down as chairman of Mores. This is a reporting point for unwanted behavior in the performing arts, television and film sectors.
Dekker elaborated on an article published by de Volkskrant on Friday, about the transgressive behavior of her husband, among others, in the editorial office of NOS Sport. According to Dekker, the article contained ‘a number of inaccuracies’ which it wanted to correct. For example, he wanted to talk to de Volkskrant, contrary to what was written in the article. According to him, the interview appointment was canceled by the editor. His lawyer Korver said that the reason was because he would not answer questions about whether he was also Egbers’ attorney.
An editor de Volkskrant denied this to RTL Boulevard. “We wanted to talk to Janke, but he wouldn’t. The only option Janke gave us was an off-the-record conversation with his attorney Richard Korver. Because Korver declined to say whether he also represented Tom Egbers, and because we just wanted a reaction noted, we do not respond to it.”
‘Important information withheld’
Dekker writes that after canceling the appointment, he no longer answers questions via e-mail. His daughter, who also worked for NOS Sport for many years, is said to have sent de Volkskrant a letter with “information about the affair and its consequences”. That information will not be used. “With this, important information is deliberately omitted from the article. It does not match the framing used in the article.”
After seeing the article, Dekker admits that he is still responding. “This email also contains important information that describes the affair and has nothing to do with it.”
She continued her statement with: “My husband and our family have all been deeply affected by this, both mentally and physically. I want to stand up for my family and husband now. Completely false reporting, openly. ‘News’ that has in a sense been recycled repeated because his affair has made press before.”
police protection
Dekker also said of the Egbers affair that de Volkskrant wrote: “When my own husband ended the relationship and reported it to the editor-in-chief, we had a series of incidents as a result of which we as a family received protection from the police for a longer period of time.”
Due to the privacy of his family and the young woman with whom Egbers had an affair, he did not provide any details, Dekker wrote.
RTL News has asked Dekker’s attorney, Richard Korver, against whom the family should be protected. He replied: “The family has been harassed with messages for a long time in various ways and this worries them. The police have investigated but have never been able to catch a suspect. So we don’t know.”
Mores also responded to the resignation of chairman Janke Dekker. Meldpunt regretted the decision but respected it. Dekker himself was quoted in his statement: “It was important to me that the Mores Foundation was not hindered in any way in this
fulfilling his important social duty: offering a safe haven to all (possible) reporters who behave transgressively.”
