Google announced foldable phones, budget devices and tablets

Google unveiled its new Pixel devices at the Google I/O developer conference. The new one Pixel 7aSmartphones available soon. For years, Google has been marketing the cheaper A variant about 8 months after the introduction of its flagship. The new Pixel 7a is the budget version of Pixel 7.

The Pixel 7a’s design is very similar to its predecessor, with the notable camera bar on the back. The OLED screen measures 6.1 inches and can refresh at a maximum of 90 frames per second.

The Pixel 7a works with Google’s Tensor G2 chip, which is also in the more expensive Pixel 7. The Tensor G2 chip enables, among other things, a zoom function of up to 8x zoom. On the back of the cellphone there is a main camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels and a 13 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera. The front camera also offers 13 megapixels.

The device has 8GB of RAM and supports wireless charging. The aluminum housing is made from 100 percent recycled materials.

The phone is available in charcoal, snow, navy and coral colors. At 509 euros, this phone is cheaper than Pixel 7 and 7 Probut 50 euros more than its predecessor Pixel 6a.

Pixel Fold

Pixel Fold is Google’s first smartphone with a foldable screen. This device resembles a collapsible one Galaxy Fold from Samsung. When the Pixel Fold is folded, the 5.8-inch screen can be used outside and when unfolded there is a large 7.6-inch screen. The phone also runs on the Tensor G2. According to Google, the battery lasts more than 24 hours and Google also claims that the hinge lasts less than other foldable phones.

There are three cameras on the back and a fingerprint sensor which is integrated into the power button. Google promises its fifty apps, including Google Meet, are optimized for use on extended large screens. Users can, among other things, place two apps side by side in a split screen.

Pixel Fold will not appear officially in the Netherlands yet. It is only available in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. The folding phone is sold there for 1899 euros.

Pixel Tablets

Unlike the Pixel Fold, Google will officially release the new Pixel Tablet in the Netherlands. The tablet includes a companion charging dock with a built-in speaker. According to the search giant, tablet users are regularly annoyed by the device. The tablet hasn’t been used at home for a long time, but when the user needs it, the battery turns out to be empty. Google wants to solve this with the dock. That way, the device has a central place where it’s always charged.

The Pixel Tablet has a Tensor G2 chip and an 11-inch display. According to Google, this device is optimized for video calling. For example, Google Meet adjusts video lighting more quickly when you move and you can make video calls in HD quality.

If you put it in the dock, the tablet turns into a kind of smart assistant similar to the Nest Hub. In hub mode, some functions can be used hands-free. In hub mode, users can also control smart home devices and stream pictures and audio from their phone to their tablet via the built-in Chromecast function.

Pier included

The Pixel tablet has three built-in microphones, an 8 megapixel camera, 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. The case has a nano-ceramic coating, which, according to Google, will feel like porcelain.

Pixel Tablet is available in gray-green and porcelain for 679 euros. Pier included. The separate extra dock costs 149 euros and the case with metal ring mount costs 99 euros. The tablet will be available in the Netherlands from June 20.
