New EU sanctions against Iran for seven months in a row

LUXEMBOURG (AP) – The European Union has imposed additional sanctions on Iran for the seventh straight month. According to EU countries, the ultra-conservative regime in Tehran continues to repress dissidents and women.

Since October, the EU has been ratcheting up pressure on Tehran, which relentlessly suppressed last fall’s protests and continues its suppression. Protesters, political opponents and women were deeply affected. The pounded protest movement emerged after the death of a young woman who was taken away by a vice squad for not wearing her headscarf properly and demanding more freedom.

The unions convicted a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, five executives from a foundation that provides income to the guards and two members of parliament. The latter are said to have insisted on killing the demonstrators and further curtailing women’s liberties. Mobile provider Ariantel was also penalized. Prisoners are no longer allowed to enter the EU and can no longer access any assets in the union.

Britain also imposed new sanctions on Iran. London once again punished several leaders of the Revolutionary Guards.
