Rotterdam – The Jan de Wit Tournament is an international gathering of women’s fastpitch softpitch teams, held in Haarlem since 1987. From the Netherlands participated: Olympia, Onze Gezellen, UVV, Sparks and Neptune from Rotterdam.
Bonn Capitals and Wesseling Vermins come from the top of the German Bundesliga. The last of the eight teams is The Mix, an occasional combination team from Great Britain.
In the first round of the tournament, Neptune faced Wesseling Vermins, UVV and Sparks-2. Wesseling Vermins – from the top of the German Bundesliga – was beaten 6-1 in the first game. Next up is UVV’s turn, making his debut in the Dutch big league in the new season. The second game was also a win for the Rotterdam women’s team: 3-0.
After day one, Neptune led Pool B’s list. On day two, game three started, against Sparks-2. That game was won 0-4. Next, it was time for the final where Neptune was already waiting for Olympia. Olympia is now the champion of the Netherlands and Europe. It was clear beforehand that it was not an easy job. Still, the loss (10-3 to the Haarlem women) turned out to be bigger than expected. Second place is a better result than last year and for now the best result.
