Gino Rea, after congratulating: “I want to win again”

Gino Rhea it’s back. Not many thought so last year when in training for Suzuka 8 HoursEnglish had a serious accident with reports of severe injuries: In addition to his brain trauma, he broke two bones in his neck, left collarbone and ribs. He also suffered from a lung injury and pneumonia. It was feared he would never be able to walk again, let alone fly. He was torn between life and death and Happy.

Yang from the Islands has been on the podium at Spa with his team, honda tsr. Together with him, he contributed to the fact that, finally, the squadron would win the World MatchHe FIM EWCin 2022. Now, seven months later, Gino talks about all this and more in an interview on the contest’s website before Parade in 24 Hours of Le Mans in which he will participate on April 15.

Q. In which world are you Gino and how are you today?

A. I am currently in Spain with my wife, Isabella, continuing my training and rehabilitation. I’m fine and feeling better every day.

Q. What is your phase with your recovery?

A. At first we were all very worried because you never know what the long term effects of a brain injury are, so I feel very happy and lucky to have recovered to where I am today. My training is going very well and my physical condition is improving every day. I still need time, but he is on the right track.

Q. Can you describe a typical day for you right now?

A. My day usually starts with light exercise or yoga in the morning and then there is my main exercise in the afternoon. Some days they are even in the peak of rehabilitation, which is part of the recovery process. We had a nutritionist write down his recommended plan for me. It’s basically similar to what I’ve been doing since I’ve always eaten healthy, in general. I snack occasionally, but usually it’s homemade, so it’s pretty good, and my diet consists of basic fruits and vegetables and meat.

Q. To say that the past seven months must have been rough on you and your family is an understatement. How are you?

A. Yes, the last seven months have been very hard on me and those around me. I feel so sorry for them because they had to go through hard times with me, especially with my wife; Isabella is amazing to me and I wouldn’t be as strong as I am today without her. And many thanks to my family, who are always by my side. I also have to thank my manager Terry Rymer for all the support.

Q. The outpouring of support, encouragement and donations has been huge. What does that mean for you?

A. It means a lot to me. The support has been great and I really appreciate every comment from everyone, so thanks to everyone who has shown your support. The donations have also been great (we plan to close the GoFundMe page at the end of this month), and it is for this reason that I was able to have that much rehab and get better quickly, so I will forever be grateful to each of you who contribute.

Q. What message do you have for motor racing fans and members?

A. My most important message is ‘thank you’ to everyone who has shown me support. It really didn’t go unnoticed. This goes for every fan who contacts me and any other top pro racer who does.

Q. Your colleagues always refer to the role you play at F.CC. TSR Honda France Becomes World Champion 2022. What Satisfaction Is That?

A. Gives the satisfaction of being world champion together. I really appreciate their help and enjoyed being team-mates with them, we had an amazing time together, which made them champions.

I don’t remember much about Japan, it’s a frustrating injury that takes time to heal

Q. What memories do you have of race week in Japan?

A. Unfortunately, I don’t remember much of my time in Japan. I only have ‘flashback’ memories of certain places.

Q. Was there any anger, despair, or frustration about what happened to you?

R. Frustrated, yes. It was an unfortunate event that had a huge impact on me with an injury that will take time to heal from. It’s a frustrating injury and I need patience to get through it.

Q. What is the plan to follow in terms of short, medium and long term goals?

A. I want to get back to the same overall level as before and for me that means getting back to the front and trying to win races again in the World Endurance Championship, EWC. EWC is a championship that I love and where I think I have found my place. Throughout my career I’m happy to be in the championship if I’m competitive and I’m competitive most of the championships, but in the EWC I found a home and I found a home in the Honda and that’s the situation. like. return

Q. Is the prospect of competing at the top of the EWC realistic anymore? Are you optimistic?

A. I am optimistic about the plan, it just takes time to achieve it. But in the end, I think the time will come very quickly because my progress may be better than many people expected. Even the doctors hoped it would take longer. I’ve been testing my motocross bike and doing track days with the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade and it was a complete surprise to me and others around me. It’s hard to give an exact date, but I hope to have more training days to get a feel for it more.

Q. Your health and fitness has always been something you take seriously. How has that contributed to your recovery?

A. Throughout my racing life I have tried to be as fit as possible and personally I think that has always served me well. And now I’m in the World Endurance Championships, which is key. In general, it has helped me, but in situations like this my health and fitness are at a high level, that’s what helped me recover. His previous levels were high on health and fitness levels. Your body obviously goes down when you have an accident, but you have that anvil inside of you.

Q. Have you ever thought much about life outside of racing?

R. I already have my own racing team and this year we are in Supersport on British Superbike. The team is called R4R (Ready 4 Racing) Vision Racing, and it’s based on the ‘coaching’ that I always did before the team started. The team has been here for three or four years. It is based in England. My partner on the team is Vision CPS. They used to be personal sponsors. I met the owner, Elliott Mumford, when he was giving a guest talk at the same event and learned that he lived in North Cheam, close to my family’s home in Epsom, which is in Surrey, in the southwest London suburb. . His son, Alfie, has a rare syndrome, but he is a very kind and strong boy. They do a lot of fundraising for her and other special needs kids through the One Step at a time Charity.

Q. Do you have plans to watch the first race of the EWC season at Le Mans?

A. I will be going to Le Mans to do a lap of the march and support the TSR Honda team. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates again and seeing the fans. Honda France is preparing a motorbike for me to ride in the parade lap. I don’t know the specifications of the bike, it will be in the TSR Honda livery, but I don’t know the details right now. He was very emotional because I wanted to be at the Le Mans race. That’s a fact. I’ve seen people do rounds of this march before after coming back from something similar. I’ve always admired them doing it and now I’m doing it. I feel so grateful that they let me do it. It’s going to be emotional for me because I can’t believe I’m going to be there and be given a parade ride. but the number of people who know I had this accident is staggering. I got a message from a famous pilot. The most important thing I really thank everyone who has shown me their support is because you realize how small the world really is and until something like this happens it’s hard to appreciate. Even though the world is very small, the Internet is huge and news travels fast. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone and doing this round will show people what your support has helped me achieve. And of course I will stay to race and I will support TSR Honda. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates again and seeing the fans.
