Tim de Wit about his book The Kingdom of Wankel

ALKMAAR – Former NOS correspondent Tim de Wit will come to the library in Alkmaar De Mare on the evening of Wednesday 3 May to talk about his book The Kingdom of Wankel. Tim de Wit settled in relatively quiet London seven years ago as a correspondent. What follows is a roller coaster of political events, intrigue, and most of all… chaos. The country is upside down. And it actually still is. In his Wankel Kingdom, De Wit looks under the tarpaulins of Great Britain. And guess what: it squeaks and creaks on all sides. Scotland wanted to leave, the weather was rumbling in Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson was happy to lie about it and even after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the oligarchy in London was dealt with only sparingly. The future after Brexit is truly uncertain.

At the same time, the British hoped that everything would work out. If they can do anything, it’s improvisation. During this lecture at the Alkmaar de Mare Library, Tim spoke about his book and the experiences he had while in Great Britain. There’s also space to ask questions and buy the book (don’t forget to ask for his autograph).

White Team

You may know Tim de Wit (Mr. Brexit) from his nearly seven years of correspondence in the United Kingdom. As a British expert, he was one of the speakers at NOS, which broadcast Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Last year his book came out full of analysis of a changing nation: The Faltering Empire. He now works on Bureau Buitenland’s Radio 1 program and creates the Europa Draait Door podcast with Arend Jan Boekestijn.

This course is a collaboration between the Kennemerwaard Library and the Van der Meulen Bookstore.
