The UK will do everything in its power to return anyone who enters the country illegally. That’s what Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said in a conversation with British newspaper the Mail on Sunday. ‘Make no mistake. If you come here illegally, you can’t stay.’
The UK government is expected to introduce stricter rules for immigrants soon. Sunak is under increasing pressure to deal with the flow of migrants entering Britain from Europe across the English Channel. Sunak had anchored a skiff to one of his five boats main priority.
‘Unfair’
“Illegal migration is unfair to UK taxpayers, unfair to those who come here legally and inappropriate for criminal gangs to continue their immoral trade,” Sunak said. “I am determined to keep my promise to stop the boat. So make no mistake, if you come here illegally, you can’t stay.’
Last year, more than 45,000 people made the crossing, according to official figures. It also appears that the number of asylum applications in the UK is below the EU average.

Rwanda
Under current rules, asylum seekers who reach the UK can often stay in the country to hear their case. The new law should put an end to that. Under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, it was decided to send tens of thousands of migrants to Rwanda. The policy has been blocked by the European Court of Human Rights.
