After delivering its first female prime minister with Thatcher, the British Conservatives have now appointed a prime minister of Indian descent in Rishi Sunak. The left has always spoken of inclusion and emancipation, but the right seems capable of achieving it, he concludes Afshin Ellian.

Brexit turned Britain into a volcanic island. Britain moved easily from one political crisis to another. This state of permanent crisis is a direct consequence of the EU membership referendum. 51.89 per cent then voted for Brexit, 48.11 per cent against. Thus, the winner of the referendum did not win with an overwhelming majority, but only by 3.78 percentage points, or 1,269,501 more votes. The deep divisions that emerged from here only brought political instability.
British voters gave Johnson a major mandate to deal with Brexit
British voters act according to the ‘voter gives and takes power’ motto. In December 2019, three weeks before the Brexit deadline, voters intervened. They gave Boris Johnson the widest possible mandate to deal with Brexit. The Conservative Party destroys other parties. Parties and individuals who delay the implementation of Brexit are severely punished.
Johnson won even in districts that have been considered a stronghold of the Social Democrats for more than a century. He acted with passion and waved the European Union flag. But three months after his monster victory, the world suddenly ends with a pandemic. Johnson downplayed this until he himself was admitted to ICU with a coronavirus infection. After that he fought fanatically against the coronavirus and was overweight, but he fell due to lack of discipline. The law seems to apply to everyone, but not to Boris.
Johnson resigns, Liz Truss arrives. With a fantasy story about taxes and financial markets. He forgot for a moment that Brexit had not been handled well financially. In addition, the West, including Great Britain, is involved in a conflict with Russia, with an energy crisis
as a major economic consequence. Liz Truss became the shortest Prime Minister in British history. Britain’s Conservative Party must appoint a new leader.
British conservatives, not leftists, promote true emancipation
It is British Conservatives, not left-wing politicians, who are promoting true emancipation. During a previous leadership battle, I asked a British surgeon of Afghan descent if Rishi Sunak had any real chance. It seemed impossible to him, because Sunak was Indian. British Empire policy has always been to keep the ‘locals’, or the colonized, quiet. They were never allowed to lead England. Responsible ‘real’ British. And now, in 2022, Rishi Sunak becomes the prime minister of the country.
The British worked in several countries – even Iran, which was not a British colony – with fundamentalist spiritual leaders to gain more cultural influence over the population. That is why some Iranians once thought that the religious leaders, the ayatollahs, were British agents. At the start of the Iranian Revolution (1979) there was even doubt whether Imam Khomeini was really Iranian: ‘You never know, his brother lives in India, maybe he is British, like Lawrence of Arabia.’
Using backward fundamentalist mullahs to control the minds of the people is a colonial tactic. By the way, the French didn’t do that in their colony. They promote Enlightenment values. And they still do.
