MADRID, 25 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Former UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock has been the victim of an attack on the London subway by a man in his 60s who has been arrested and remains in police custody.
British Transport Police (BTP, for its English acronym) have reported that the first notification it received of the incident warned of a man being “attacked and abused” at Westminster station on Tuesday morning.
Since then, authorities have arrested a 61-year-old man as the main suspect in the attack, although it is true that investigations are still ongoing, according to UK channel Sky News.
According to a spokesperson for the former minister, the incident was “highly aggressive and ominous”, and he said the assailant was a “dangerous conspiracy theorist”. He also thanked police officers and BTP for their work.
“Fortunately, this type of behavior is rare, but it’s incidents like this that re-emphasize the importance of stopping the baseless misinformation that causes so much damage.”
Hancock served as health minister from 2019 to 2021, when she stepped down after it was discovered that she had crossed boundaries during the pandemic to date another woman with whom she was suspected of having an affair.
At the end of 2022, he again caused controversy by participating in the program ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’, a survival reality show in which he participated along with other celebrities and in which the British Conservative Party decided to suspend him as deputy.
