La Nación / Delivery of tanks to Ukraine announced

London, England. AFP.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Saturday that Britain would supply Ukraine with tanks to help Kyiv forces “push back the Russian forces.”

Sunak pledged to supply Challenger 2 main battle tanks and additional artillery systems as a token of “Britain’s ambition to increase our support for Ukraine,” according to a transcript of a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Britain’s announcement to provide tanks to his country, saying it “sends the right signal”.

“In conversation with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, I thanked him for a decision that not only strengthens us on the battlefield, but also sends the right signal to other partners,” Zelensky said on Twitter.

Several explosions were heard this Saturday morning in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, according to an AFP journalist, and Ukrainian officials said the attacks targeted key infrastructure.

“Missile attacks on key infrastructure facilities” have taken place in Kyiv, the deputy head of the Ukrainian President’s office Kirilo Timoshenko said on Telegram.
