Queen Sofia has ended the year with sad news. Last Thursday, December 29, Prince Max of Baden, second cousin to Queen Sofía and cousin to King Charles of England, died at Salem Castle in Germany. The House of Baden itself confirmed the sad news through a statement on its official website.

Max de Baden, 89, is one of the elders of Europe’s royal families, as well as the head House of the Grand Duke of Baden, where he carried the title Margrave.
