Public health systems like Denmark or better in 2023: AMLO

The president of Mexico was asked about the date by which he fulfills his promise to have public health services at the Danish level.

“By the end of next year we will have a public health system like Denmark and it could be better”said Andrés Manuel López Obrador in response.

He explained that medicine in Denmark is free, “They have a policy that is completely unattainable in Mexico because in Denmark there was initially no corruption, as there was in Mexico”.

He mentioned that in Denmark there is no corruption and that is the reason “The budget is paying off and they have set up what they call a welfare state, which is what we are looking for for Mexico”.

“First there is no corruption and second is a welfare state,” he said..

He made it clear that what he meant by a “welfare state” was that “that person has security from birth to death, from the cradle to the grave”.

In a hypothetical and practical situation, the President explained that the intent was for patients to be able to reach a puskesmas in good condition, with daily GPs, medicines, and access to level two hospitals.

On January 16, 2020, said López Obrador “This December the public health system will operate normally, with quality services, medical care, free medicines.”

“They will work, that’s the goal like health services in other parts of the world like in Denmark, that’s how we aspire to be like Canada, like England”.
