Snapchat started rolling out a new plan today snapchat+, which initially offers access to six new exclusive features. For example, paying users can see how many people have re-watched their Stories. They can also pin one friend as their ‘best friend’.
Customers can also choose from a variety of new designs for app icons on their home screens. And they can see their friend’s direction of travel on the Snap Map while they’re on their way, as long as the friend has given permission.
Snapchat promises to regularly add new exclusive features to subscriptions. Also, some of the new features that will be coming to all users will only be available to subscribers initially.
Still advertising
Paying users will still see ads in the app. Snapchat+ is currently only available in nine countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Germany and France. Snapchat hopes to expand subscriptions to more countries in the future.
The app has 332 million daily users worldwide, according to the company. In the Netherlands there is 4.5 million Snapchat users.
Twitter and Telegram
Snapchat isn’t the only chat app moving to a subscription model. Last week, Telegram started with a own subscriptionwhich gives the user a wider limit and all sorts of extras.
Twitter also introduced it last year TwitterBluesubscription, which provides paying users with a number of new features, such as the ability to retract sent tweets and NFT profile picture.
