One in three UK pubs closing more often to save costly energy | Economy

More than a third of UK pubs are open shorter hours to save on energy costs. Some pubs are closed for a few extra hours, while others are even closed for a few days. This was reported by the UK statistics agency ONS on Monday.

Just like in the Netherlands, many companies in the UK have to deal with high electricity bills. Hence, 6 percent of pubs were recently closed an extra two days a week. Another 7 percent are closed one day a week, while 21 percent decide to stay closed for a few hours longer.

In total, 34 percent of pubs have decided to open less. They also do this because they find that many of their customers need to watch their spending. Inflation plays an important role in this. The pub is also suffering from a major staff shortage.

Pub owners are hoping to close their pubs less frequently this month. This is partly because the holidays are just around the corner. In England this is often a time for extra pub visits.

Another factor is that later this month the World Cup starts, in which England and Wales have already qualified. This sport is very popular in Indonesia.
