The UK says the monkeypox vaccine offers a strong 78% protection

LONDONNov 22 – A single dose of monkeypox vaccine provides 78% protection against the virus, according to data published Tuesday in the UK, which health authorities say is the strongest evidence of its effectiveness.

Monkeypox cases remain low, but the World Health Organization continues to classify the disease as a global health emergency, the highest level of alert.

The new analysis looks at vaccine data from Bavarian Nordic in England between July 4 and November 3, says the UK’s Health Safety Agency (UKHSA).

The single vaccine provides 78% protection 14 days after it is applied, while the second dose is expected to provide greater and longer-lasting protection, he added. UKHSA.

More than 55,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered to date, according to the agency.

Monkeypox, a relatively mild viral disease that is endemic in several West and Central African countries, spread around the world earlier this year.

Since then there have been more than 80,000 cases worldwide, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
