British consumers appear to be increasingly turning to frozen and canned goods. It writes Bloomberg. The reason, food prices and inflation in the UK continues to increase.
Due to the high prices, consumers were forced to be more creative with their budgets, which meant discounts and own brands were very popular.
For example, customers of the Tesco retail chain recently purchased more frozen vegetables, fish and frozen pizza. Less fresh pasta is also being purchased, but consumers seem to increasingly prefer dried pasta. Also, products like canned soup are preferred over fresh soup.

“People are paying more attention to the value of a product now,” says director Richard Walker of the Icelandic budget supermarket chain. “Frozen meals are cheaper and mean less waste, which is necessary now that all budgets are being squeezed to the fullest.”
According to analysis institute Kantar, sales of frozen vegetables were about ten percent more than the previous year. The same agency calculated that inflation in Britain was the highest in four decades; nearly 14 percent earlier this month.
