In the United States, the Pointer Sisters have been successful one after another since 1973. With Fire they have also managed to break through in countless other countries.

Fire was created in 1977 by Bruce Springsteen. The singer is said to have sent a demo of the song to Elvis Presley. Whether he actually heard the song is unclear, but Bruce would know that the tape didn’t reach Elvis before his death. In fact it wasn’t Bruce Springsteen with the first record, but Robert Gordon. Gordon worked on his album Fresh Fish Special with The Jordanaires and made it Elvis’ backing vocals. The So Fresh Fish Special contains a recording of Fire where Bruce Springsteen himself is the keyboardist. Bruce dropped Fire, like at least 51 other songs, for the album Darkness On The Ege Of Town. Some of these songs were later included in the album The Promise.

The Pointer Sisters reached the Top 40 for the first time in 1974 with Yes We Can Can, before eleven other hits followed five years later.

Bonnie Pointer had left the Pointer Sisters shortly before Fire’s success. Anita and June, two members from the start, now work with Ruth. Therefore, the fire was the beginning of international success. Likewise Happiness, Jump and Automatic followed.

Fire was number 1 for four weeks in 1979. In the United States, the track remained at number 2, where it did not even exceed number 34 in the UK.
