Australian athletes’ strict rules at Commonwealth Games | Other sports

Australian athletes are not allowed to encourage their compatriots to compete in other sports at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. This is one of the steps taken to minimize the risk of transmission of the coronavirus, said mission head Petria Thomas.

“We must take these steps to minimize the transmission of the coronavirus and other diseases,” Thomas said. “Our main goal is to ensure that our athletes arrive early fit and ready to perform.”

The Commonwealth Games will be hosted from 28 July to 8 August by the Commonwealth of Nations, namely Great Britain and most of its former colonies. It concerns about 5000 athletes from 72 countries. Australian athletes must continue to wear face masks from the moment they leave their hotel rooms.
