A massive 24-hour strike by the machinists is taking place in England. Earlier on Saturday, about 6,500 drivers laid down their jobs. As a result, nine railway companies barely run at all. The above-ground network in London was also affected by the attack.
The strike is part of a long-running conflict between unions, operators and the government over wages, lists and possible dismissal. The first act started in June and will continue indefinitely. Saturday’s action was organized by the ASLEF union. A similar strike by the RMT and TSSA unions is planned for next week.
Five rail companies, including Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway, will not operate at all on Saturday. Other affected operators only allow trains to run infrequently. Hence extra busy on the train which goes according to schedule.
The strike caused a lot of inconvenience to train passengers on Saturday. Event visitors can also wet the bed. There are Premier League football matches in cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham and Brighton, where many fans rely on trains.
On Saturday night, the band Coldplay also held a concert at Wembley, which is expected to attract about 90,000 people. Usually, many visitors come to London stadium by train.
NS employees will soon stop working en masse because there is no collective bargaining agreement with the union. These include relay strikes in certain regions and the nationwide closure of rail traffic.
