Letters have been sent to the UK Parliament, there is a scribble on the condolence register and this afternoon there was a formal memorial in the House of Representatives with the British ambassador.
humor
The Dutch Parliament sympathized with the British after the death of their Queen. “The impressive manner in which she tirelessly, calmly and with humor fulfilled her duties will always be remembered,” said Chamber President Vera Bergkamp.
Now the commemoration is more often held in the House of Representatives. Four years ago, for example, for former Prime Minister Wim Kok. Or for victims of attacks: such as the attacks in Utrecht and Christchurch and the attack on French teacher Samuel Paty. But some prominent figures are not commemorated in the House of Representatives, such as the recently deceased leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev.
Warm tires
The choice of holding a joint celebration or not is made by the presidium of the House of Representatives. In fact, a protocol has been made when the DPR holds a warning.
The protocol, for example, states that former Dutch party leaders or former prime ministers are always commemorated. And the protocol also states that heads of state from countries that have warm relations with the Netherlands are commemorated. Great Britain falls into the latter category.
What is commemorated in the DPR?
The DPR protocol states that the following is always observed:
- Royal House Member
- Head of state of a country with close allied relations with the Netherlands (EU member states, Council of Europe, NATO)
- Former Prime Minister
- Former Speaker of the House of Representatives
- Former leader of party factions in DPR
- minister of state
- Incumbent MPs and officials
And the DPR considers attacks and disasters.
During anniversaries, a member of the cabinet is always present, often the prime minister.
