Three Britons of Moroccan descent, Iman Less, Aicha Less and Hamza Taouzzale, were elected on Friday during municipal elections in London’s Westminster area.

Newly elected Labor members were rewarded for their commitment and years of political activism, which allowed their party to gain 31 seats in Westminster, 12 more than in the 2018 election.

Aicha Less is from Larache and has won the seat in 2016. Hamza Taouzzale is a graduate of King’s College London and he is not a newcomer either. When he was elected as a candidate for Westminster City Council, he was too young to vote for himself. Iman Less, a young man holding a master’s degree in economics and political science, won a seat for the first time.

According to Souad Talsi, member of the Council for the Moroccan Communities Abroad (CCME), the election of three Moroccan Britons in Westminster is “a reminder of the need to support and encourage politically active people to gain places in British political parties.” He added that “The future of our young generation in the UK is bright. We are here to help them and to ensure that Moroccan and Moroccan interests are protected.”
