conservative politics Liz Truss She became Britain’s new Prime Minister on Tuesday, the third woman to hold the position, having received an official commission from Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

It is the first time the 96-year-old monarch, who faces ongoing mobility issues, has held this important audience at his retreat in Aberdeenshire, rather than at Buckingham Palace.. Today is also the first time His Majesty has been photographed since he was seen arriving at the estate on July 21 for his summer vacation.

In a formal act called “besamanos”, although in practice it is a bow or a handshake. Buckingham Palace released pictures taken as the king asked Truss to form a new government.

The event is at noon (local time, 11:00 GMT), when the Minister of Foreign Affairs has hitherto arrived at Balmoral. The castle was a meeting place of this type for the first time during the reign of Elizabeth II.

The meeting consisted of formalities based on British political traditions: the queen asked candidates to form a new government, the designated person usually responds with a simple “yes”.

“The Queen received (…) Elizabeth Truss in audience and asked her to form a new Administration. Truss accepted Her Majesty’s offer and kissed hands after her appointment as Prime Minister,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

Shortly earlier, the Prime Minister to this day, Boris Johnson, had formally submitted his resignation to the king, having announced on 7 July his intention to step down.

Truss won the primary election held during August within the Conservative Party to elect its new leader, who automatically takes the Executive leadership thanks to his parliamentary majority.

Photo released by Buckingham Palace shows a smiling monarch, assisted by a scepter as he shakes hands with his ruler. Later more pictures were released, in which she is seen alone in the middle of a large, symmetrically decorated environment.

The meeting took place in the green-carpeted Balmoral room, which had a matching green sofa, upholstered leaf-patterned chairs, a fireplace, and several old horse-themed paintings on the walls.

Yesterday they attended the One Young World Summit in Manchester, and today they are in Germany for the pre-Invictus Games event in Düsseldorf. They will then return to the UK for the WellChild Awards in London this Thursday.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children, Lady Louise and Viscount James, had visited the queen, and Prince Charles was said to have visited her every day. Prince Andrew has also been to Balmoral.

The castle is the queen’s private property which was made home by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in Scotland in the early 1850s.

After the meeting, Truss heads to London, where he will deliver his first speech as head of government at the gates of his residence at 10 Downing Street.

Furthermore, it is hoped that the composition of the Executive will be known, with the current Minister of Business, Kwasi Kwarteng, as the big favorite to occupy the Economics portfolio and therefore the unofficial title of “number two” in the cabinet.

Truss became the country’s third prime minister, after also being conservative Margaret Thatcher (1979-1990) and Theresa May (2016-2019).
