Britain’s new Labour government will hold an international summit on October 14 to attract foreign investment. Prime Minister Keir Starmer will bring together up to 300 businesspeople, the British government said in a statement.

Jonathan Reynolds, the Secretary of State for Business, will then make the case for investment at the summit, saying the UK is a good trading partner and that the country has plans for continued investment and economic growth over the next decade.

Economic growth is a key focus of the Labour Party, which won Britain’s parliamentary election with a landslide majority in July. For example, the party has ambitious plans for new homebuilding and wants to invest heavily in infrastructure and green energy projects. Starmer has said he is targeting annual UK economic growth of around 2.5 percent.

New UK finance minister Rachel Reeves will travel to New York this week for talks with Wall Street leaders, sources have told Bloomberg. She will hold discussions with, among others, CEO Jane Fraser of US bank Citigroup and CEO Steve Schwarzman of investment giant Blackstone. Here, too, investments in the UK will be discussed.

Reeves met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen at a summit in Rio de Janeiro last month. Reeves is Britain’s first female Chancellor of the Exchequer and a former Bank of England economist. Reeves is also expected to attend an international summit in October.
