The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has emphasized that the Comprehensive Plan for the Prevention and Control of Smoking has the aim of implementing “measures aimed at achieving a tobacco-free generation and having smoke-free spaces”, while not ruling out the possibility that other initiatives could be added like those carried out in England – which will ban the sale of tobacco to anyone born since 2009 – or that of Turin, which prohibits smoking outdoors less than five meters from the house. others.
“We will progress little by little, I think we have done a great job with the consensus of all the communities and the scientific community, then we will get through it. Without ruling out that we may implement these measures in the future. , but for now we will do everything that has been postponed since 2010,” explained García in his statement to journalists after the presentation of the Commissioner of Mental Health, at the Ministry of Health.
In this regard, García has assured that “the Ministry will look at experiences in other countries and other places to see which experiences can be applied in this country and which can be applied to the health of our people.”

García also hopes that the Comprehensive Plan for Smoking Prevention and Control can be approved by the Council of Ministers within two weeks. “We will take it as soon as possible, with the consensus of all ministries,” he concluded.
