Donald Trump will pay a state visit to the UK in early June. This is what Dutch diplomats are hoping for: The American President will soon travel to a major American business conference to be held in The Hague.
The British Royal Family has just announced via Twitter that Trump has accepted Queen Elizabeth’s invitation. Trump and his husband, Melania, will visit Britain from June 3 to 5, according to the royal family. The Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) will take place in The Hague on June 4 and 5. The Dutch government has long hoped that this event will receive extra attention with the visit of the American president.
Additionally, there are D-Day flags waiting for Trump in our country. The flag, taken by the Americans during the Normandy invasion and first landed, was purchased by Dutch collector Bert Kreuk. He wants to donate the flag to the US, but only if President Trump personally collects America’s historic stars and stripes.
D Day
Therefore, the GES was held just before the 75th anniversary of D-Day, with the idea that the chances of Trump visiting Europe during that period would increase. The bill was canceled because it turned out that no head of state had been invited to the official commemoration. Since then, there has been speculation about how a possible visit to England would make his arrival more likely.
Trump had been promised a state visit by Prime Minister Theresa May when she was elected in 2016, but a date has not been set. When Trump visited the country in the summer of 2018 – he had tea with the queen of England – his visit was overshadowed by massive protests. During his upcoming state visit, Trump will attend D-Day commemorations in Portsmouth with Queen Elizabeth. After his visit to the UK, Trump will travel to France. It is unclear whether his itinerary makes room for a quick visit to our country.
