5 Facts About: Bastille sometimes forgets the lyrics

Last week they appeared on the Pinkpop main stage and last Friday they released their latest album Doom Days. This British alternative quartet works hard and you probably know it from their many hits, but what don’t you know about Bastille? In today’s 5 Facts About we have listed five facts about this band!

Crazy about History
The people of the Bastille seemed obsessed with history. And it starts with their name. Bastille is the name of the first day of the French Revolution, which is also Dan’s birthday. Additionally, they have several songs that contain historical terms. Take for example their monster hit Pompeii, named after the lava-covered city. Or Icarus from Greek mythology. But this led to these nerds performing at The National British Museum, as the first band ever!

Katy’s group
The band loves Katy Perry so much that her name often comes up in interviews with the band. For example, lead singer Dan Smith said at the Brit Awards in 2017 that he even struggled to stay calm. When Katy asked him to chat with her, he clammed up and then cracked an awkward joke that the singer didn’t understand. And last week when the band was in Holland, they asked Katy in an interview to call them out for a collaboration. They are big fans! In fact, from these pictures you could say it could be the opposite.

It’s getting hot in here
One group sells buttons, shirts and bags, while the other group sells their favorite sauce. Bastille does it all! People loved Hot Sauce so much that they decided to start selling their own sauce.

#AskBastille
Sometimes when they forget the lyrics, they look at the people in the front row to see what they are singing. The band admitted this in a #AskBastille question and answer session on Twitter. Funny and honest, right!?

The most listened to song in the UK
In 2014, their hit song Pompeii became the most listened to hit song in the UK with 26.6 million streams. The hit has now been long removed, led by Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You.
