No Champions League football in 2022/23 season for Ajax football players. In the last preliminary round, Arsenal were too strong 0-1 at De Toekomst, after the first leg in London ended in a draw (2-2).

Vivianne Miedema was the match winner with a hard hitting from distance in the 51st minute. Check out the summary above!

Chance in the 2nd half
Before the break, the chances are few. Miedema opened the game shortly after the break. Ajax then went 1-1 down and substitute Tiny Hoekstra came close in the 71st minute. After a superb run from Romée Leuchter and a fine cross from Nadine Noordam, Hoekstra had only one short toenail to find the ball on the strings. This is how Arsenal entered the main tournament of the Champions League.

Martens is important for PSG
Lieke Martens has guided Paris Saint-Germain to the group stage of the Champions League. Just like last week in the first match (2-1) against Swedish club BK Häcken, the Netherlands also opened the scoring in return, in the 53rd minute. PSG won 2-0 in Gothenburg.

Besides Martens, Jackie Groenen was also on base. The latter was substituted after an hour, right after Kadidiatou Diani had made it 0-2. Diani also scored a goal last week.

Not with Orange Lionesses
Martens won the Champions League in 2021 with FC Barcelona. They lost in the Orange Lionesses election for the upcoming friendlies against Zambia and Norway. National coach Andries Jonker has yet to recall the 29-year-old from Limburg, such as defenders Dominique Janssen and Stefanie van der Gragt ‘after proper consultations’.

Beerensteyn
Lineth Beerensteyn, who was cleared to report to the Orange squad, also reached the Champions League with Juventus. The Italian club won back against HB Köge of Denmark 2-0. Beerensteyn, who swapped Bayern Munich for ‘Juve’, played the entire match. Last week it was 1-1 in Denmark. Then the striker from The Hague only participated in the last half hour.

The women’s Champions League final will take place in Eindhoven on June 3 or 4.
