Volleyball player reaches Nations League quarter-finals despite losing

21:45: Dutch men’s volleyball could participate in the quarter-finals of the Nations League later this month. The Orange squad missed the chance to qualify under their own strength due to a 3-0 defeat against Italy on Sunday. Since Poland went on to win 3-1 against Slovenia, the Netherlands is still confident of a place among the best eight nations.

The quarter-finals are July 20 and 21 in Bologna. The Orange would then be number 8 against Italy, who finished first. This gave the Dutch an immediate chance for revenge. On Sunday the fixed position is 25-23 26-24 25-21. The Orange squad left four set points unused in the second set.

England hockey players reach World Cup quarter-finals via intermediate stage

20.25: England’s hockey players have qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup, which was played in the Netherlands and Spain. The Olympic number 3 in Tokyo settled with South Korea in the intermediate stage at Terrassa on Sunday: 5-0.

Pattinama-Kerkhove wins ITF tournament in Portugal

20:06: Tennis star Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove has won the ITF tournament in Corroios-Seixal, Portugal. In the final she was too strong in two sets for Lina Glushko of Israel, global number 268. It was 6-4 6-4 for third seed Pattinama-Kerkhove.

Pattinama-Kerkhove, who is ranked 138 in the world, was stranded in the second round of Wimbledon at the end of June. In it he was knocked out by Iga Swiatek, the number 1 Pole in the world. Grael and Kunze came in with 69 points, Van Aanholt and Duetz 75. Swedish sailors Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler finished third with 78 points.

In the men’s event, Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken had to settle for silver in the race for the European title at 49er. The pair scored 83 points. Spaniard Diego Botin and Florian Trittel Paul took gold with 68 points. Britons James Peters and Fynn Sterritt finished third with 84 points.

The fifth Terpstra mountain biker at the World Cup in Lenzerheide

15:15: Mountain cyclist Anne Terpstra finishes fifth at the World Cup at Lenzerheide in Switzerland. She finished just over two minutes behind winner Loana Lecomte of France. In the sprint, Terpstra had just been beaten by France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, who came in fourth.

For Lecomte this is the second win in a row. He also won the competition in Leogang. In the World Cup standings, she is 1 point ahead of Australia’s Rebecca McConnell with 1204 points. Terpstra is fourth with 890 points.

Swiss tennis star Waltert wins ITF tournament in Amstelveen

15.13: Simona Waltert has won the ITF tournament in Amstelveen. The 21-year-old Swiss was too strong for American Emma Navarro in two sets. It went 7-6 (10) 6-0 to Waltert, world number 186.

Fourth seed Waltert led the team to the elimination of Quirine Lemoine of the Netherlands in the semifinals of the tournament. It’s 6-3 6-4 for Switzerland. Lemoine qualified for the semifinals by eliminating Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands.

No Lavreysen and Hoogland medals at the Nations Cup in Cali

09:28 Track cyclists Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland have lost medals in the keirin section of the Nations Cup competition in Cali. Lavreysen won the final B in the city of Colombia. Hoogland is fourth. Victory in the A-finals went to Nicholas Paul of Trinidad and Tobago. The two Dutch track drivers will compete in a sprint on Sunday.

Hetty van der Wouw just lost a medal in the 500 meter time trial. She was fourth, 0.759 seconds behind Colombia’s Martha Bayona. Steffie van der Peet finished seventh.

Mylène de Zoete finished ninth in the omnium. The victory went to Jennifer Valente from America.

Nearly 2 million viewers for Orange Lionesses’ first European Championship match

09:11 The Orange Lionesses’ first game at the European Football Championship in England was watched by nearly 2 million people on Saturday night. The Dutch women’s team drew against Sweden, 1-1.

This audience was almost as large as the women’s first match at the previous European Championship, in our country in 2017. Then the Netherlands beat the Norwegian women. The most watched broadcast about the European Cup at that time was a tribute to Dutch women which was watched by 5.4 million people.
