The Countdown Is On Before Boomtown Rats, Reef And Toploader Rock Holywood
ONE of Northern Ireland’s biggest music festivals is getting ready for an explosion of music in the County Down town of Holywood.
The Boomtown Rats, Reef, Toploader and Ryan McMullan are just some of the acts lined up for Harmony Live 18, a three-day music festival taking place this weekend from 01 – 03 June.
On Friday 01 June, Reef, Toploader and Rews will take to the stage followed by The Boomtown Rats, The Tragedy Of Dr Hannigan and The Wood Burning Savages on Saturday 02 June. On Sunday 03 June local artist Ryan McMullan, fresh from touring with Ed Sheeran, will be supported by Northern Ireland Music Prize winner Joshua Burnside, Michael Kerr and Rebekah Fitch.
Festival Director Mari Jackson said she was excited by the growth of the festival and commended all the volunteers and retailers and the community for their effort.
“What started as a small effort to promote Holywood and its community has exploded into something really special,” she said. “This year we’ve doubled the size of our marquee and we’ve added many more events to our family day this year.
“That acts such as the Boomtown Rats and Reef come to our town is massive. We can’t wait to host all the acts and once again see the Holywood rocking, together with everyone from across Northern Ireland.”
Also taking place as part of the festival is the annual busking competition which will see one local up and coming act get the opportunity to perform before The Boomtown Rats on the Saturday night. A host of pubs and clubs around the town will also be providing entertainment throughout the weekend such as The Frisky Bear, Stoker’s Halt, Betty’s, The Yard and the Holywood Rugby Club itself where VIP tickets are available to purchase with tickets at Garry’s Barber Shop in the town.
On Sunday 03 June from 11-3pm, there will be a family fun day in association with Forestside Shopping Centre which has over 16 different events and activities including face painting, bouncy castle, kid’s disco, Talking Reptiles, World Of Owls, Food & Drink, Beer Goggle Football, Foot Pool and much more.
There will also be a Dog Show, hosted by Holywood author and model Patience Bradley who is also a dog expert, where people can enter their dogs in a variety of categories such as Happiest Dog, Brainiest Dog, Most Obedient Dog and Prettiest or Most Handsome Dog as well as one dog being crowned Holywood’s Most Harmonious Dog.
Among the acts that have played the festival in the past are Alabama 3, the Hothouse Flowers, Gareth Dunlop, Ulaid, and Duke Special.
Remaining tickets are available from www.wegottickets.com, Garry’s Barber Shop, Homebird Cafe and Stoker’s Halt in the town.
