Prison Sisters | Respect Human Rights Festival
Balmoral Hotel, Belfast • Wednesday 08 March 2017
On 08 March, Respect Human Rights Film Festival will close its successful first year in the Balmoral Hotel with an International Women’s Day screening of Prison Sisters, followed by an awards ceremony and drinks reception.
PRISON SISTERS takes us through the journey of two young women who have been released from prison in Afghanistan. Sara’s uncle has planned to kill her an attempt to save his honor in their small village. Fearing for her life Sara escapes to Sweden, but Najibeh stays behind.
While Sara struggles with her newfound freedom, her prison-mate Najibeh disappears and soon Sara hears that she was stoned to death. Sara and the filmmaker want to find out the truth, only to encounter a maze of half- truths on the streets of Afghanistan. We follow the two main characters, revealing what happened to them – each with an exceptional fate depicting the horrific reality for women in Afghanistan.
Following the screening, our awards ceremony will take place, celebrating the filmmaking talent from across the world and from Ireland. A drinks reception will mark the end of a successful first year for Belfast’s first dedicated Human Rights Film Festival.
This event takes place in Balmoral Hotel, at 7pm on Wednesday 08 March. Tickets cost £3.
Tickets for this event can be purchased from respectfilmfest.com or at the venues half an hour before the event.
